About IEI
The Institution of Engineers (India)
set up in 1920 is the largest body of professional engineers in India with a membership
of nearly 5,00,000 members. The Safety and Quality Forum of The Institution of Engineers
(India) established in the year 2003, is engaged in promoting the knowledge and
information in the field of safety and quality. The aim of the Forum is to network
with various national, regional and local government bodies; as also with the industry,
public and private sector, academia and others and inculcate the concepts of safety
and quality in applications and operations.
About the Safety
and Quality Awards
The Safety and Quality Awards have been
instituted by the Safety and Quality Forum of IEI with a view to encourage professionals
from manufacturing and service sectors to strive for excellence.
The Safety and Quality Awards of the
Institution would help
a) Encouraging professionals
to make significant improvements in safety and quality practices for maximizing
workforce and
consumer satisfaction and for successfully facing competition in the
global markets;
b) Recognizing the
achievements of those professionals who have improved in the field extensively and
thereby set
an example for others;
c) Establishing
guidelines and criteria to evaluate competency of professionals.
The Awards
The Awards will be presented on the basis
of applications received from different individuals and selection made by a Committee
approved by the Board of Governors of the Safety and Quality Forum of the Institution.
Each winner shall receive an award, i.e., a Plaque of Honour along with a Certificate
and Citation.
The Committee will be empowered also
to short-list individuals who might not have otherwise applied.
Award Winners can use the 'Award Logo'
on their print and promotion materials by mentioning the Year of the Award and the
names of 'The Institution of Engineers (India)' and 'Safety and Quality Forum' .
These Awards will be given every year.
The Safety and Quality Awards 2009 will be presented at the Twenty-fourth Indian
Engineering Congress of the Institution scheduled to be held at Mangalore, India
during December 10-13, 2009.
Basis of Evaluation
The assessment of applications will be
done to identify the contribution of professionals in the field of safety or quality
through innovation, creativity, achievement, commitment, well researched replicability
and sustainability.
Eligibility to compete for the Award
An applicant is eligible to compete for
the award, if he / she satisfies the following conditions :
a) The Applicant
is located in India.
b) The Applicant
has been working in the concerned field for at least ten years as on the last date
of submitting the application.
c) The Applicant
has never been convicted by any Court for deficiency in product or service and /
or found guilty of financial irregularities by any regulatory authority or Court.
An undertaking to this effect will have to be submitted.
d) The Applicant
is not involved in profession relating to manufacturing of product like tobacco
and liquor, etc which are injurious to health.
Assessment Criteria
The assessment will be made on the basis
of different parameters to be identified from time to time.
Emphasis will be placed on safety and
quality achievement and quality improvement as demonstrated through the information
provided by the applicant.
Assessment Process
All the applications received shall be
screened as per the criteria laid down on the basis of information provided by the
applicant. The Applicants selected in preliminary screening will become eligible
for final assessment and fact-finding exercise. A team of experts appointed for
this purpose would evaluate and assess the applications.
Final Selection
A Jury of experts will recommend winners
for the Safety and Quality Awards based on the evaluation of the written applications
and the results of fact-finding exercises.
The final selection will be approved
by the Committee formed by the Board of Governors of the Safety and Quality Forum
of IEI.
Non-disclosure and Confidentiality
The names of applicants, examination
and scoring information developed during the review of applications shall be regarded
as proprietary and kept confidential. Such information shall be available only to
those individuals directly involved in the assessment and administrative processes
and shall not be disclosed.
Right to reject Application
The applications that do not fulfill
the requirements as mentioned in the announcement may be rejected. The team of experts
also reserves the right to reject applications considered to fall below the required
standards. The decision of the Committee appointed for this purpose shall be final
and binding on all concerned in all respects.
Submission of Forms and Last Date
Five (05) copies of the application form
duly filled-in by the applicant should be sent before September 30, 2009 to :
