Born
on 24 September 1951 in Ferozepur (Punjab), Major General (Retd) Ravinder
Kumar Sanan, Vishist Seva Medal was commissioned in the Corps of Electronics and
Mechanical Engineers (EME) of the Indian Army in 1971 and has served the nation with distinction for nearly 38 years. In recognition of
his distinguished services to the nation, President of India conferred the award
of Vishist Seva Medal on General Officer on 26 Jan 2010.
Maj
Gen Sanan obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
from the College of Military Engineering (CME), Pune and the
Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME),
Secunderabad in 1975. He obtained his Postgraduate Diploma in
Automobile Engineering from MCEME, Secunderabad in 1985-86. Maj Gen
Sanan also completed the prestigious Long Defence Management Course
(LDMC) and the Master of Management Studies from the College of
Defence Management, Osmania University, Hyderabad. He also obtained
his Master's Diploma in Business Administration from the Symbiosis
Institute of Management Studies, Pune.
Maj
Gen Sanan's professional assignments include working as Production
Manager at the Army Base Workshop during December 1994 to May
1996; as the Commanding Officer of an EME Battalion during
January 1996 to May 1998; as faculty member at the College of Defence
Management, Secunderabad during April 1999 to August 2001; as Deputy
Director in the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME)
of the Indian Army from September 2001 to January 2003; as Deputy
Director General (Technical Administration) at the Directorate
General of the Border Roads Organization, New Delhi from January
2003 to April 2005; as Director in the Directorate of
Standardization, Ministry of Defence, New Delhi from May 2005 to
October 2006; as Major General of the Corps
of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) at the Central Command
of the Indian Army from October 2006 to May 2008. Maj Gen Sanan was elevated to the
position of Commander, Headquarter Technical Group of the Corps of
Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of the Indian Army, Delhi
Cantonement, in June 2008 and superannuated from that position on 30
September 2009.

Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India), The Indian
Institution of
Plant Engineers (IIPE), The Institution of Electronics and
Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), and The Institute of Directors (IOD), Maj
Gen Sanan is also Member of All India Management Association (AIMA)
and the Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA). He is also a Chartered
Engineer with The Institution of Engineers (India).
Maj
Gen Sanan has been conferred with the National Golden Peacock Award
2008 for 'Excellence in Innovation Management'. He has also been
awarded Certificates of Excellence in the Capital Repairs Infantry
Combat Vehicle BMP-1 and the Overhaul of Motor Vehicles KRAZ 255B at
the erstwhile USSR.
Maj
Gen Sanan is a keen golfer and also an astute leader with high
tolerance for ambiguity, high emotional intelligence and a passion
for creativity. He has got a rich experience in strategic planning,
human resource management and training aspects and also possesses
the ability to interact, manage, negotiate and establish effective
communication.
